Curtis Gates Lloyd traveled the world collecting books and plant specimens during the 1890s through the 1920s. While abroad, Lloyd brought his camera to document plants in their natural habitat and record their uses. His travels included: Samoa, Mexico, Caribbean islands, Italy, and Egypt. When at home, Lloyd photographed life in Cincinnati and at his farm in Crittenden, Kentucky. He often displayed these images in photo albums where he would write about his journeys. Now the subject of ethnobotanical scholars, Lloyd’s photographs along with six recently conserved photo albums provide a unique view into the past.

Since nature is an everchanging force, capturing its splendor in the present will serve as a record for the future. The beauty of the natural world now is showcased by Rick Conner and TJ Vissing. Inspired by the work of The Nature Conservancy in Ohio, Conner and Vissing view nature as an incredible force, inviting the viewer to slow down and view life in a different way.  Images from these magnificent natural spaces illuminate and create a record of today’s everchanging environments.

Visions of Nature across Time and Place is part of the 2022 @fotofocuscincinnati Biennial. Now in its sixth iteration, the 2022 FotoFocus Biennial encompasses more than 100 projects at Participating Venues across Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, and Columbus, and features more than 600 artists, curators, and participants—the largest of its kind in America.

Free and open to the public. Light refreshments.
