Hester Ferguson Henshall Collection

Hester Ferguson Henshall became acquainted with the Lloyd brothers and their botanical pursuits through her husband, Dr. James A. Henshall, a graduate of the Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati. In 1925, she sent Curtis G. Lloyd her watercolor paintings of wildflowers from Florida, Mississippi, and Montana, where she and her husband had resided or visited. Her “painting diary” noted dates and locations of the illustrations. Lloyd then identified each plant and bound the collection of more than 1,000 paintings into 12 volumes.
