Negotiating the Fungus Fad: Gender and Mycological Work in the Era of Professionalization

22Sep2021

Virtual lecture

From 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Join 2020 Curtis Gates Lloyd Fellow, doctoral student, Madeline DeDe-Panken, as she investigates the gendered dimensions of interactions between the scholarly mycological community and those engaged in the little-remembered cultural "fungus fad," which brought mushrooms to the forefront of popular culinary practice and scientific study in late nineteenth-century America. DeDe-Panken spent a month on-site at the Lloyd poring through Curtis Gates Lloyd's mycological correspondence to inform this work.
